Why dogs hide during thunderstorms and how to help

A dog disappearing under the bed, squeezing behind the sofa or retreating to the laundry when thunder rolls is usually responding to fear, not being stubborn. Storms combine several frightening sensations: booming sound, flashes of light, changes in air pressure, wind, rain and unfamiliar smells.
