Sebastian & Me, A Rite of Passage and Spiritual Journey

by Kay A. Clark

People who have pets know that they are more than companions. They often become family members who bring joy and comfort to others. Having a relationship with a pet can be a healing bond for many people, as an animal gives love unconditionally. If you have ever had a pet of any kind, you’ll be able to relate to this story.

The story of one woman’s relationship with her pet cat, Sebastian & Me is a book that will appeal to animal lovers everywhere, even those among us who are strictly “dog people.” As noted in its book description online, it is “a collection of true, heartwarming stories of unconditional love, loss, the strength of the human spirit and the bond formed between a cat and its owner.”

In fact, author Kay Clark, gets in the mind of her cat so much that you feel you are sharing the cat’s experiences through his personality and sense of humor. Sebastian loves to go outdoors and Kay allows him to roam the neighborhood because he always comes back when she calls him. What happens one day when he doesn’t come home, however, will surprise and inspire you.

This story is a faith-based journey, with the author often looking to the Bible for guidance and calling on guardian angels and saints to protect Sebastian. The fact that she never gives up becomes the cornerstone of story and it keeps you reading to see if there will be a “happy ending.”

Although not giving up hope that Sebastian will return, the author decides to adopt another cat, who she names “Sidney.” She opens her heart to her new furry companion, but still has hope Sebastian will be found.

There are many stories of lost pets returning home, sometimes after long periods of time. Would you, the reader, have the same faith if your pet was lost? How long would you believe before you gave up hope?
