Two Bostons Pet Boutique, a leading area resource for pet care and wellness products, today announced that it will hand out free long-stemmed roses to the first 250 store visitors who wish to honor a fallen Veteran this coming Memorial Day weekend.
“Anyone who’d like to honor a fallen Veteran is invited to visit either of our Naperville stores on Saturday, May 24 th , or Sunday, May 25 th , for a free long-stemmed rose,” says owner AdreAnne Tesene.
“There’s no obligation of any kind — this is simply a reminder of the true reason we observe this national holiday. The roses may be placed on the gravesite of any fallen Veteran at any local cemetery. They may also be placed at Naperville’s Fallen Soldier Remembrance Sculpture on the Riverwalk.”
Each Two Bostons location will have 125 roses on hand, so the offer is limited to a single flower per visitor on a first-come, first-served basis. Two Bostons is also partnering with Memorial Day Flowers Foundation ( www.MemorialDayFlowers.org ), a non-profit organization that will place 150 additional roses at Arlington National Cemetery headstones as part of this special tribute.
“A top priority at Two Bostons is giving back to our surrounding community,” AdreAnne says. “Our local Veterans have made immeasurable sacrifices to ensure national security and freedom. This is just one small way that we can help pay tribute to the local heroes who gave all.”
The Naperville Riverwalk Fallen Soldier Remembrance sculpture was unveiled in 2013. It is a bronze, life-sized replica of a soldier’s boots, rifle and helmet. When a serviceperson is killed on the battlefield, it has become customary to arrange that individual’s boots, rifle and helmet in this manner, which is also known as the Battlefield Cross.
The sculpture is accompanied by a granite monument that includes a plaque listing the names of all Naperville military personnel who have died in service since the War of 1812. Funding for this public memorial was made possible by Naperville’s Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and American Legion Post #43.
