When Bashel and Squanto found themselves in a shelter with their brother Chowder, it took eight long months before a family came along who could keep the bonded trio together. Luckily, Beth Hukill had always wanted five dogs, and she already had two — so adding an extra few furry faces was perfect for her and her two kids.

Now, Bashel and Squanto keep the Hukill family on their feet and having fun with personality to spare.

“They seem to have a sense of humor,” Beth says. “Bashel walks through my legs every morning after I dry my hair, wagging his tail, then rolling over to reveal his belly. Squanto jumps on my bed every night, nuzzles me, sleeps for about 15 minutes, then hops off. They have a good mix of socialization, and being by themselves.

“Bashel is the brains, Squanto is the brawn. Once Squanto was on a chair and Bashel was on the floor. Bashel got up and nearly ran over to me. He was really excited! He kept looking back at Squanto, who eventually lifted his body, jumped off the chair and came over to where the action was. Bashel immediately left me and hopped on the chair. It was all an act. Bashel used me to get the chair!

“They are super smart dogs, full of love and fun,” Beth adds. “And they’re both shelter dogs. Please adopt, spay and neuter!”
