Our long, hard winter is finally gone.
I tried to keep up a good attitude, don’t get me wrong. I geared up and got out and told myself there was no such thing as bad weather, only poor preparations. For the most part, it was a mantra that got me through — well, that, plus a good supply of long johns and a wardrobe of outerwear suitable
for mountain climbing in the arctic. But mostly the mantra.

Day after day, snow after storm, Zeus
and I braved the cold with stout hearts and a fierce will. Okay, it was mostly Zeus with the heart and the will, but I was still out there. And it was okay. We survived. I kept up my spirit. Sort of. Except for when I was wishing it would just warm up already.
Now that it finally has, though, I can hear a little voice of regret — and it sounds a lot like the jingle of car keys. Zeus loves to go with me in the car. He doesn’t care where we’re going or why, he just wants to be part of the journey.
I love that.
I love him more, though, which is why he won’t be going with me as much now that it’s summer. I hope you’ll leave your pupsters at home, too, because even when it’s only 75 degrees outside, the inside temperature of a car can skyrocket to 100 in about 10 minutes. That’s not safe for any dog and “cracking” the windows doesn’t make a bit of difference.
I know we’ll all miss the company of our four-legged copilots. But don’t worry — winter will back soon enough.
