Mission Statement:
As an overnight camp for dogs and humans to experience together, Camp Dogwood has always been about creating programs that foster the human/canine bond. We are in session a number of times every year with activities, speakers, demos and fun for all levels of involvement. A great place to go with friends, or a great place to go meet new ones! Beautiful lodges and “Ruff-it” rustic cabins provide a variety of on-site accommodations. Plus, an on-site lake and over 600 acres to explore with your dog keep the adventure new every time.
Core Values:
We have always supported positive reinforcement training methods and our staff of dog-industry professionals does, too. We place a high value in education for our campers, in addition to all the fun they have, and we’re always adding new topics and activities as they become more popular in today’s dog culture. We also put a focus on safety above all else during camp. That’s one of the reasons we’re proud to be the Midwest’s only authorized reseller of Variocage, Variogate, and All-Safe Harnesses, which are the most rigorously tested pet travel safety crates, barriers and harnesses. In fact, these are the only cages to pass front, rear and roll-over crash tests! We offer free assembly and installation, too.
Philosophy of Service:
We really love hearing about when the programs we’ve hosted have enhanced campers’ lives with their dogs. “We have always believed that dogs are much more than just family pets. Dogs are part of the family, and for many of us, they are more reliable and dependable than some of the people in our lives,” Alysa says.
“We know that our programs strengthen the bond between a person and their dog, but after 14 years, we also know of countless human/human friendships that have resulted from coming to camp.
“We like for our campers to feel part of the Dogwood community from the minute they first register for their first session. We hope that all campers will participate in the ongoing conversation we have on Facebook and thru social media. We like to help people and their dogs stay active year-round, not just when we’re in session, and we like nothing more than when campers reach out to our staff for classes and training.
“Our next session is October 10th through the 13th. There are still some lodge rooms and cabins available, so bring your dog up and stay — you’ll both be glad you did!”
